News alert! The jumpsuit is on pause. Why? Because, apparently, it took me three projects and three months to get to this point, but I am not planning on sewing another project I plan out until I get the necessary expertise. I mean, sewing is so much fun, and I really enjoy it, but sometimes learning to swim doesn’t happen in the deep end (drowning is what happens there), and the actual learning happens in the shallow end over time. I cannot wait to wear the vintage wardrobe I’ll imagine and sew myself, but that will only happen if and when I actually make a wearable piece of clothing. And I know I will get to the point where I can dream up a dress and then draw out a pattern for it, which I sew and then wear very proudly. But first, I need the ability to see and plan out a pattern. I need to know how sewing works, how a piece of clothing is actually put together. How pattern drawing works, and why what I have been doing isn’t working out. I have to understand so much before I can do what I planned to do. And that is fine. I took sewing slowly in the beginning, then got over-excited and wanted to jump ahead a couple of months. I need to take a step back and get some vintage patterns and learn to sew that way. I am likely to get ahead of myself again, and I am super excited to see how that will work out for me. Until then, I’m on the hunt for vintage patterns.
I am not disheartened, I am very enthusiastic and excited. I am glad I have the composure to slow down when the time calls for it. Mark my words, soon enough, when I see a retro picture of a vintage dress, I will draw out the pattern myself, sew it, and wear it very very proudly by ME.
