Hello everyone!
I’ve started my new project! Well… my mom and I started this new project. We spent the day together, and we decided to sew ourselves matching skirts. So, we went to the fabric store and got a stunning material, two zippers, and a new thread that colour matches the skirt. We came home and got down to business. I still have the [sarcastically] brilliant idea of not using a commercial pattern but drawing the skirt out ourselves. And my mom being an absolute sweetheart, agreed to it. When I say we spent much time trying to figure out the way, I mean WE SPENT SOOOOOO MUCH TIME TRYING TO PUT THE SKIRT PATTERN TOGETHER. Like we measured ourselves, calculated the radius of our waist, then divided and did this and that and this and that, and it was IIIINNNNSSSAAANNNEEELLLYYY funny! I had such a good time, I enjoyed learning and re-doing, and re-doing, and learning, and interestingly I did not get annoyed and frustrated and didn’t end up wanting to burn it all down. So, we agreed to do my mom’s skirt first, and then we will do mine some other time. We had no time for both.:( Actually, we didn’t have time to finish her skirt either, but I’m sure it will come together soon enough.
We first decided on the orientation of our skirt. To make our legs appear even longer, we chose to go with the left orientation. Sneaky haha

Then, after we measured out the pattern on the material, we drew out the pattern.

Then we cut out the pattern.

We pinned the cut-out material together to picture how the skirt would look like. We wanted a 360° skirt. Given that our material wasn’t wide enough, we couldn’t cut it out as one big circle. We had to improvise, and we put the big piece together from three smaller pieces to make it a whole.

Everything went so well, we actually sewed the three parts together without any issues.

That is until we tried to put the zipper in. We ended up messing it up a little bit… Always tripping close to the finish line haha Never mind that, we unpicked the thread, recovered quickly, and sewed in the zip, this time the right way.

Sadly, we had no time to finish it off, so I cannot entertain you with a finished piece. We need to sew the bottom and the top of the skirt, add a little belt, and a button, and then it will be done. And then we will complete mine too. But neither of these will happen next week, as I am travelling away, so stay tuned.
All in all, I have to say, we had a lovely mother-daughter day! Can’t wait to finish the skirts and wear them out in public, I’m already excited!
